Overview
The Gamma Delta chapter of Chi Omega at San Diego State University is one of pride, energy, commitment, and strong values. Rechartered in 2025, after a 30-year absence from SDSU, our first year has been exceptionally successful. In Fall ’24, Gamma Delta recruited the largest class of new members (282) in the country. Currently, at over 270 members strong, our members represent all facets of SDSU life.
Additionally, the SDSU Greek system is growing as sorority life is rising again in popularity. Chi Omega is committed to being a strong partner in our Panhellenic community. The house where our members will reside is in the center of Greek Circle, an area of activity and related college activities.
We are looking for a House Director who takes pride in being a part of a community, who is committed to nurturing a culture of “Sisters in Purpose”, and who is fiscally responsible, organizationally strong, and is flexible but clear in evolving situations. The House Director must enjoy interfacing with others and being a representative of our culture and values. College students face several challenges and opportunities, so our House Director will exhibit mentorship, leadership, grace, and empathy, while also being direct and firm.
The House Director position’s primary responsibility is the general management of the facility at 5076 College Place, San Diego, CA. 92115. This is an overview of the position, and the duties are not limited to what is listed here.
Major Job duties:
Managerial Responsibilities:
Serve as the primary property manager for the Gamma Delta Chapter House.
Supervise vendors at the chapter house, including maintenance and cleaning company personnel.
Be responsible to the House Corporation board for all employees’ activities, which may include verifying the hours employees work (if appropriate)
Protect and support the positive reputation of Chi Omega, including its individual members. Speak positively about Greek Life at SDSU.
Ensure that a positive, working relationship is formed with vendors, staff, and collegiate members, keeping as a priority respect for all that enter the facility. The house director must present a professional appearance and demeanor, with a positive and cooperative approach to communicating requests and resolving issues.
Supervise the House Manager or hired support to perform duties as directed. This includes managing summer storage, assisting in opening and closing the house, servicing vacuums weekly (checking for clogs, emptying dirt bins and cleaning all filters), ensuring shower curtains and liners are clean, changing light bulbs, changing smoke detector and carbon monoxide detector batteries, and performing other light maintenance/housekeeping functions as directed.
Track guest meal fees.
Work with House Manager to track guest room usage and cleaning, as appropriate.
Supervise College Cuisine in the purchase and storage of all supplies in compliance with all applicable local, state and federal health and safety codes or regulations.
Work in partnership with College Cuisine in providing feedback and guidance in menu planning if necessary.
Work closely with the GH and Personnel Officer of the collegiate chapter and the Personnel Advisory board to handle personnel issues that may arise.
Physical House Management:
Maintain a home-like atmosphere, greeting residents and their guests, being available for meals and social events (when requested by chapter officers) held within the house. The following specific events are held annually and will be required: Move In and Out days, parents weekend, and normal recruitment activities in which the House Director’s presence is expected.
Be responsible to the House Corporation board for the physical elements of the house. Maintain the smooth and harmonious functioning of the physical house and well-kept appearance of the interior and exterior of the house.
Inform the House Corporation board if things are missing or need to be repaired.
Ensure proper maintenance of the house, furnishings and grounds. Secure minor repairs through the appropriate list of agencies provided. The House Director is authorized to secure minor repairs for items up to $300 without consulting the Corporation in advance. The House Director has a fiduciary responsibility to protect the property. As such, in emergency situations where the House Corporation board members cannot be reached, the House Director has the authority to approve repairs necessary to prevent additional damage, even though expenses might exceed $300. Be proactive in informing and recommending to the House Corporation board any repairs or equipment failure.
Work with the House Corporation board to secure ongoing maintenance services including trash hauling, housekeeping, landscaping, pest control, and major repairs such as painting, roofing, etc.
Compile a list of recommended major house maintenance items to the House Corporation board for completion over the summer, including painting of specific rooms, etc.
Administrative Duties:
Pay all bills (except for the lease and the loan payment) e.g., utilities, security, wifi, etc., and maintain QuickBook records for the House Corporation board.
Keep records and make financial reports as required by the House Corporation board. Reconciling invoices from vendors as needed.
Meet weekly with the House Manager and Chef to ensure house operations run smoothly.
Maintain in strict confidence the workings of the Chapter, and the social and financial affairs with respect to non-members of the fraternity.
Check assigned email account daily (Monday through Friday).
Submit all debit card receipts within five business days.
Participate in social functions at the request of the Chapter
Perform other duties that are occasionally requested by the University.
Attend House Corporation board meetings when requested to do so.
Attend the Chapter’s weekly General Meeting and give a report if needed.
Attend the Chapter’s weekly formal dinner.
Run errands as necessary for the House.
Prepare the Chapter House for Opening in the fall and closing in the spring.
Abide by the Gamma Delta House Rules, as well as applicable Panhellenic and University rules for housing.
Familiarize yourself with the house rules and the live-in contract the members sign. Assist the chapter President and officers in upholding all rules.
House Director shall not have the authority to enter into any contracts for goods or services on behalf of the Chapter or House Corporation board beyond the scope of her designated duties without prior written permission from the Corporation President or Chi Omega National Headquarters.
House Security Responsibilities:
Work with House Corporation board and Chapter to ensure house security.
Secure all entrances, front and back and side doors by 7 p.m. and then re-check at 9:30 p.m.
Make sure entrances are well lit each night.
Check to make sure all windows and doors associated with formal entry are locked by 8:00 p.m.
Check to ensure all windows are closed and locked on main floor.
Ensure the oven and stove off by 9pm.
In an emergency, make the necessary emergency service telephone calls first (i.e. 9-1-1).
Support the Chapter President in fulfilling her emergency responsibilities as outlined in Chi Omega Fraternity’s Emergency Procedure.
Security of the house and the Chapter members is the number one priority of your position.
Notify appropriate authorities for any and all criminal activity and medical emergencies. Cooperate with authorities in investigations as needed.
Be aware of SDSU Campus Police policies as it pertains to Greek life
House Director and House Manager shall conduct one fire drill each semester and ensure all fire doors remain closed. (Arrange in advance w/ fire department so they know it’s a drill).
House Director shall ensure all girls are briefed on how to open windows.
Maintain the security codes for Chapter members and personnel.
House Preparation:
At the beginning of each semester, conduct an Orientation Meeting with the House Manager, Executive Board (applicable members), and all live-in members.
If necessary, schedule additional Live-In meetings with the House Manager and Executive Board.
Supervise the preparation of the house for opening each semester by following the checklist provided by the House Corporation board.
This also includes checking out all rooms before possession is taken by each member and making her own damage/cleaning survey sheet of each room
Order necessary supplies to open the house in coordination with the Chef
Check in the members, assign codes after necessary paperwork is complete
Supervise the closing of the house by following the checklist provided by the House Corporation board.
This also includes checking out the rooms at the end of the year not only at the time the member checks out, but also after they have moved out and making her own damage/cleaning survey sheet for each room.
Follow the closing checklist and any other necessary tasks to close the facility.
Other Responsibilities:
As a representative of the Gamma Delta Chapter of Chi Omega, the House Director may interact with collegians, parents/families, university officials, community representatives or others. The House Director should be a person of graciousness, hospitality, and warmth when relating to others. The House Director should keep a neat and clean personal appearance and will be appropriately dressed when interacting with the chapter members and visitors, as may occasionally occur.

Bookkeeping skills are recommended/preferred.
Must have a cell phone
Must be able to take charge in an emergency and be reachable by phone at all times.
Must be comfortable using a computer and Microsoft products in order to pay bills online and access the chapter Facebook Page and Our House application in order to stay informed and communicate with the members.
Physical:
Must be able to lift up to 20 lbs unassisted and items of this weight up and down stairs. Easily able to ascend and descend 2-3 flights of stairs routinely throughout the day.
Other:
Reside in the chapter house during regular academic terms, as well as be available for vendor access for needed and/or scheduled repairs and special events during academic breaks.
Requires ability to drive for short errands related to job, including picking up or delivering household items, mailing/shipping and meeting vendors.
NOTE: No alcohol, tobacco, illegal drugs or firearms are allowed on Chi Omega property at any time. The Fraternity allows no exceptions for this rule.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed at the Chapter house and grounds.
Preferred:
Past experience as a House Director or other group living situation supervisor role.
Supervision:
This position reports to the Gamma Delta House Corporation President, with strong relationships with the Gamma Delta House Corporation board, Gamma Delta Advisory Board Chair and the Gamma Delta Chapter President.
Compensation:
The Gamma Delta House Corporation board is committed to a compensation package in line with other House Director positions at San Diego State University.
