HOUSE DIRECTOR JOB DESCRIPTION
The House Director is a representative of Epsilon Nu chapter of Phi Mu Fraternity to the public and a key link on which success of the House depends. The House Director has authority over Epsilon Nu Chapter House with the House Corporation and Alumnae Advisory Council to effectively use available resources to accomplish her job responsibilities.
Promoting a comfortable living environment, positive resident and public relations is a prime responsibility of the House Director. We offer first class service to each member. In fulfilling the job responsibilities of House Director, always keep in mind we strive to meet the needs of the residents.
The House Directors duties include six major areas:
1. Budgeting, Purchasing and Meal Planning:
Work with the Corporation in making a budget in buying expendable supplies and approve bills for same.
Work with the Food Service Provider to come up with Menu
Monitor meals, late meals, special meals.
2. Official Hostess:
Provide a comfortable living environment for members and their guests by promoting social graciousness in all aspects of daily living.
Set and encourage high standards of conduct on and off the premises.
Work with Food Service Provider to organize Dining Room and Kitchen services.
Confer with chapter President and Social Chairman in planning social events.
Serve as a resource to chapter about rules of etiquette.
Meet and welcome parents, alumnae, national visitors, and guests who visit the house.
Encourage members not living in the house to become involved in-house activities.
Uphold university and chapter policies and regulations
If invited, attend meetings dealing with the House.
Participate in House Director’s activities on campus.
Be fully informed about rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and traditions of the University
3. Serve as Counselor:
Inspire confidence and respect in each woman.
Listen, respect, and keep confidences unless the information presents a danger to the members of the chapter.
Encourage development of self-reliance.
Consult with the Alumnae Advisory Council and Chapter Officers whenever it is deemed appropriate and necessary.
4. Running of the House:
Supervise the cleaning and opening of the House at the beginning of the school year.
Oversee the maintenance of the House.
Take complete inventory at the end of the school year.
Reporting security problems to the proper authorities.
Maintain the facility in accordance with all Fraternity, Corporation and community laws and regulations for good health, life safety and security standards.
Direct cleaning and closing of the House at the end of the school year.
Responsible for the removal and/or proper storage of perishable foods during all vacation periods.
Report damages and losses to the Corporation.
Oversee the physical protection of the House including equipment and furnishings.
Supervise all repairs and deliveries. Be prepared to give a clear description of repairs needed to aid service personnel in bringing the proper parts and completing the work at a minimum cost.
Arrange for the care and security of the House during vacation.
Supervise the grounds care.
5. Hire, Train, Supervise and Evaluate Staff:
See that house rules for kitchen operations and safety are observed.
Post rules and other city and state food service licenses and certificates.
6. Ensure Life-Safety Requirements Are Met:
Maintain local emergency numbers — police, fire, medical and counseling services.
Coordinate with the House Manager a fire drill and evacuation process once each term.
Ensure that evacuation plans are posted as required.
Ensure that all life-safety equipment is well maintained and in good working order — fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, fire alarm system, and access code systems.
Maintain a basic first aid kit.
Perform a security check of Chapter House before retiring, including securing all outside doors and windows.
Maintain a complete set of keys and/or access codes for all doors in the facility, except for the Ritual closet.
Be able to locate and operate all major utility cutoffs.
Provide the corporation with emergency notifications — telephone number and whereabouts when leaving the Chapter House for an extended period.
