ASSISTANT HOUSE DIRECTOR POSITION DESCRIPTION

PART TIME WITH POTENTIAL FOR FULL TIME

Qualifications: High School or equivalent required, college degree preferred

Special Skills: Excellent interpersonal, customer service, critical thinking and management skills

Position Summary

The Assistant House Director will aid the current House Director with the various aspects of her role through Fall Semester 2026 with the potential of serving as permanent House Director at the beginning of Spring Semester 2027. Approximate number of hours would be 10 per week.

House Director Overview

The principal duties of the House Director are to manage the proper care, operations, and maintenance of the chapter house in accordance with the health, safety, and fire codes of the city, county, and state -- as well as with chapter housing policies.

The House Director oversees the day-to-day operation of the chapter house, including management of personnel; coordination of contractors, vendors, and service providers; and staying within the provided budget. The House Director will also serve as a liaison with the University and act as a hostess to the chapter house, when requested.

The nature of the House Director’s duties is such that both the House Director and the House Corporation (“HCB”) and/or the staff must plan carefully to control and anticipate the number of hours to be worked each week to meet the needs of the chapter. The duties necessitate significant variations in daily hours of work. The House Director must possess a valid driver’s license and a personal automobile covered by valid insurance.

Essential Functions

• Easily able to ascend and descend stairs routinely throughout the day.

• Able to lift items weighing up to 30 pounds.

• Able to perform duties with prolonged periods of standing and walking, and semi-frequent pulling, pushing, and bending.

• Should employment of the Assistant House Director lead to a full-time position, this would require residing in the chapter house during regular academic terms -- as well as being available for vendor access for needed and/or scheduled repairs and assisting with special events during academic breaks.

• Able to drive for short errands related to the job, including picking up or delivering household items, mailing/shipping, and meeting vendors.

• Work independently.

• Manage and account for expenditures, including petty cash.

• Give and receive written and verbal instructions in a clear and professional manner.

• Manage employees, including scheduling and monitoring hours worked, reporting personnel concerns, and training and onboarding of new employees.

• Be proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel, e-mail, online ordering, scanning and vendor management.
